The United States and Iran were due to hold indirect talks in Pakistan this weekend. Pakistan has long offered to mediate between Washington and Tehran after months of stalemate between the two countries.
On Saturday, however, President Donald Trump cancelled the trip of his envoys to Islamabad. The decision came without warning and caught regional diplomats and Iranian officials by surprise.
Iran's foreign minister said the country has yet to see signs that the US is serious about diplomacy, and warned that the abrupt cancellation could further erode trust. He added that Tehran will continue to consider every avenue for talks.
